The Green Bay Packers simply have to address the backup quarterback position.

If things go according to plan, Jordan Love will take every meaningful snap for the Packers this season. Green Bay made him the highest-paid player in franchise history for a reason. But in the National Football League, you can never get caught without a backup plan.

Throughout the preseason, the Packers allowed two QBs with zero NFL passes under their belt to duke it out for the backup role, and both looked dreadful on the field. Green Bay cut rookie Michael Pratt, seemingly installing Sean Clifford as the current number-two, but there has to be a better solution.

On Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns mercifully provided the Packers with that solution. Green Bay would be wise to swiftly take action.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Browns released quarterback Tyler Huntley, solving their own overcrowded depth chart. Once a playoff starter for the Baltimore Ravens, Huntley is now available for teams like Green Bay looking to shore up their backup spot.

Everything the Packers seemingly need from a backup quarterback fits Huntley's resume.

Though his 2022 Pro Bowl selection was outlandish, due to the fact so many AFC quarterbacks opted out, Huntley has proven himself capable of taking over for one of the game's best in Lamar Jackson. He locked up a playoff spot for the Ravens that season with a 2-2 record down the stretch.

In his career, the 26-year-old has played in 21 games, including the postseason, making 10 starts. He has a 64.6% career completion percentage in the regular season, with eight touchdowns, seven interceptions, and 509 rushing yards.

If the Packers find themselves having to replace an injured Love, head coach Matt LaFleur would feel much more confident looking down the sideline if Huntley were there. If he isn't stolen away by another team, Huntley needs to be wearing green and gold this fall.
