Pair of Colts draft picks claimed off waivers by other teams

The Indianapolis Colts watched two of their former draft picks get scooped up by other teams Wednesday.

Included in the massive day of roster cuts Tuesday, the Colts parted ways with 2024 seventh-round pick Jonah Laulu and 2022 fifth-round pick Eric Johnson II.

Neither player made it through waivers.

Laulu was picked up by the Las Vegas Raiders , who held the 13th spot in the waiver order. There was a hope Laulu would make it back to the Colts practice squad.

The depth at defensive tackle made it difficult for Laulu to make the roster without having an incredible preseason, which he did not.

Meanwhile, Johnson was claimed by the New England Patriots , who held the No. 3 spot in the waiver order.

Coming from a small school, the Colts hoped Johnson would have a similar development path to that of Grover Stewart.

The Missouri State product never panned out as a one-technique defensive tackle, and the depth at the position made him an easier cut.

The Colts used their No. 15 spot in the waiver order to claim cornerback Samuel Womack III from the San Francisco 49ers.
