Nebraska and UTEP meet as part of a packed Week 1 slate of college football action. The Cornhuskers will attempt to take the next step under coach Matt Rhule. The Cornhuskers were just a few plays away from a postseason bowl bid, if not an entire month away if it wasn't for four straight losses to finish 5-7.

Rhule did more than just reset his program. He reloaded in a major way and, by doing so, got Dylan Raiola as his quarterback of the future. Raiola's backstory of how he got to Lincoln is well-documented, but what's even more staggering is the immediate confidence he carries with him entering the season.

“Buckle up," Raiola told reporters. "It's gonna be a fun ride."

That fun ride will see the Cornhuskers have a significant home-field advantage throughout September, including marquee matchups against Colorado a week from Saturday and a home date with Illinois, as it beat Eastern Illinois in a 45-0 defeat Thursday night.

The Cornhuskers' toughest matchup will be against Ohio State in Columbus in October. The Buckeyes are perennial favorites to win the conference by season's end.

UTEP enters the matchup as a colossal underdog, looking to pull off one of the biggest upsets in program history.

Nebraska has been searching for its first national title since 1997 and has yet to find long-term success since joining the Big Ten over a decade ago.
