Red Sox would rather bench star DH than have him play in the outfield

Boston Red Sox manager Alexa Cora is adamant on not playing Masataka Yoshida in the field, per Ian Browne . Cora would rather bench Yoshida and have him pinch hit then let him play a full game.

"He's not going to play the outfield. He hasn't played the outfield the whole season,” said Cora. This is honestly unfair to Yoshida, who wants to play in the outfield, as he did in the NPB, but the Sox won’t let him because they’d rather he DH. And when a chance comes to play, the Sox won’t let him because he hasn’t played in the outfield at all this year. He is stuck in a loop.

Yoshida is also a pretty good fielder, only having three errors in the outfield last season. He has also been an amazing bat, and since July he has been on a huge hot streak . To bench him and only give him an at-bat through a pinch hit appearance is insane.

The Sox should put him in left field, where he has played for years in the NPB and last year with the Sox. Especially when Rafael Devers or someone else is DH’ing, and the opposing pitcher is a righty. Just have him play in the field over Tyler O’Neill. Not playing him is a horrible move.
