San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall is in serious but stable condition after being shot during an attempted robbery in downtown San Francisco on Saturday.

According to reports , Pearsall, a first-round pick of the 49ers in April’s NFL Draft, was signing autographs at an event center earlier in the afternoon before heading to Union Square, where a 17-year-old male attacked him with a gun over Pearsall’s Rolex:

According to the San Francisco Police Department, a physical altercation ensued and both parties were injured. Pearsall sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, and was seen bleeding while walking with minimal assistance to an ambulance, per KTVU FOX 2 San Francisco .

The frightening scene had NFL players and fans alike reacting with prayers for Pearsall and his family. Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay was among those who reacted and spoke out on social media:

Pearsall was among the more surprising first-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. The 23-year-old started his college career at Arizona State, breaking through with 580 yards in 2021 before transferring to Florida after the season. Pearsall set career-highs in yards with the Gators in both 2022 and 2023, posting 965 yards and four touchdowns last season as a fifth-year senior.

Pearsall's status going forward is now up in the air, though the news that he is in stable condition is positive. 49ers WR Deebo Samuel appeared to confirm his teammate is doing well, tweeting, "He's good” on Saturday night.
