Former Michigan defensive back Keon Sabb shines in his debut for Alabama

While everyone marvels over true freshman Ryan Williams on offense, defensively Keon Sabb had an equally impactful debut for the Crimson Tide.

Sabb appeared in 18 career games with the Michigan Wolverines, the abrupt departures of head coach Jim Harbaugh and his position coach Steve Clinksdale both to the Los Angeles Chargers, opened the portal up for Sabb. Sabb, who transferred to Alabama from Michigan in February, had a half of football that matched his career interception total that Sabb had at Michigan.

Against Western Kentucky, Sabb intercepted two of T.J. Finley’s passes and nearly came up with a third at the end of the first half. “I think it was really just make sure I go out there and do my job, don’t make it too big, first game in Bryant-Denny, just go out there and slow the game down and take what comes to you,” Sabb said. “Ball came to me, coach put me in a really good spot so it was really good.”

During postgame, head coach Kalen DeBoer summarized Sabb’s performance, “Keon Sabb, just a guy that was in the right spot at the right time and made the plays. That’s what it’s all about. A lot of guys will be where they need to be and all that, but a little special play here and there, maybe it goes through their hands. Keon, you can just see, he was ready for that moment. He pounced when the opportunity came and made some really big, big plays and got our offense in some great field position there early in the game.”
