Patrick Mahomes has entered Vulcan mind meld territory with Andy Reid

Here's a terrifying thought: What if Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, and the Kansas City Chiefs continue to get better in 2024?

The best NFL teams often feature a head coach and quarterback who seem to always be on the same page. That's certainly the case with Mahomes and Reid, who have put the NFL on notice with three championships in the past five years.

Discussing the chemistry between them, Mahomes opened up about his football relationship with Reid during a one-on-one interview with NBC Sports' Chris Simms.

“There’s actually times in games where I know what plays on the call before he calls it. And that’s not just like the first 15, that’s like during the game and middle or third quarter,” Mahomes told Simms. “He starts sending personnel in, and I’m like, got it. I know exactly where we’re going and why we’re doing it."

Do you hear that? It's the sound of opposing NFL defensive coordinators wailing and gnashing their teeth.

Here's a bit more from Mahomes about this dynamic: "And it’s cool because it develops before the play even happens. I know who I’m gonna throw it to. I know how it’s going to look, and then I go out there and execute it. That just comes with a lot of reps, a lot of time with Coach Reid, and a lot of the same guys in our football team.

The Chiefs didn't exactly set the NFL on fire with their offense last season. That could change in a big way in 2024, thanks to some new, speedy weapons. And with Mahomes getting close to Vulcan mind meld territory with Reid, that could spell doom for the rest of the league.
