Not Dick Allen. Not Mike Schmidt. Not Ryan Howard. Not Bryce Harper.

Before Tuesday, no player in Philadelphia Phillies franchise history, home to some of the greatest sluggers of all-time, had ever hit three home runs in a game twice in the same season.

    Now Kyle Schwarber has.

Schwarber, for the second time in less than a month, went deep three times as the Phillies beat the Toronto Blue Jays 10-9 on Tuesday night. He finished the game with a career-high five hits, coming just a triple short of completing the cycle. The Phillies designated hitter also drove in six runs and scored four times.

It was the third three-home run game of his career.

On August 7, the Los Angeles Dodgers were on the wrong end of a Schwarber hat trick , as he drove in seven in a 9-4 Phillies road victory. In that game, he and Harper became the first Phillies teammates to hit three home runs in a game in the same season since Johnny Moore and Chuck Klein in 1936 .

On Tuesday night, Schwarber joined Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt (3x) and Johnny Callison (twice) as one of three Phillies to have multiple three-home run games in their career.

Schwarber is the first player in the National League to accomplish the feat this season, but the second overall. Lawrence Butler of the Oakland A’s was the first in Major League Baseball to pull off the double when he had his second three-homer game on August 29 in Cincinnati.

Across MLB, players have hit three home runs in a game 14 times so far in 2024. The Phillies, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Dodgers are the only teams with more than one player on the list. All three teams currently lead their divisional races.
