Giants 'would likely be the first team in line' to sign star QB, per analyst

The New York Giants face a season of uncertainty that could put them back in the quarterback market when it's all said and done.

As Daniel Jones enters the second of a four-year contract, his future with the team is very much in doubt if he doesn't at least return to his 2022 form.

Even then, the Giants may look to change the landscape of their quarterback room. Could they do so with a star from one of their fiercest rivals?

Matt Holder of Bleacher Report believes so as he named Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott a target for the Giants in free agency next offseason.

"Prescott will be the top quarterback on the open market if he and the Cowboys can't reach an agreement on a new contract. As a result, the Giants would likely be the first team in line to steal the signal caller from one of their biggest rivals," Holder wrote.

Holder paints that picture with the notion that Jones "doesn't pan out this season" and is made the scapegoat, leading to Brian Daboll remaining as the head coach — albeit on the hot seat.

Signing Prescott would be an expensive move for the Giants considering the current quarterback market. A deal for the Cowboys star will likely cost north of $50 million annually.

Even so,  the Giants are currently projected to have just over $30 million in salary-cap space during the 2025 offseason, according to Over The Cap .

Assuming they don't find a trade partner willing to take on Jones' contract, they can save $19.3 million if they release him while taking on a $22.2 million dead cap hit.

All of this is contingent on the notion that Prescott doesn't re-sign with the Cowboys, which is the most likely scenario.
