NFL peers publicly laud Jets' slot cornerback for securing the bag

From Darius Slay to Garrett Wilson, multiple NFL players took turns congratulating New York Jets ' slot cornerback Michael Carter II on Tuesday evening.

Set to play on the last year of his rookie contract, Carter received a rich three-year contract extension that makes the 2021 fifth-round draft pick the highest-paid nickel corner. The deal can be worth up to $33 million and it includes $19 million guaranteed.

While a number of Carter's old Duke teammates congratulated him through Instagram stories, Slay, a six-time Pro Bowl
cornerback, posted a congratulatory message on X. The common theme seemed to be that Carter's haul was earned and deserved.

Wilson, the Jets' top wide receiver, said Carter "deserve every bit of that" in an X post. New York's starting boundary cornerback DJ Reed agreed that the deal is "much deserved."

Starting edge rusher Jermaine Johnson also congratulated his "brother." Former Jets' defensive end John Franklin-Myers, who was traded to the Denver Broncos this past offseason, proclaimed "you deserve this."

Carter posted a humble message on his X timeline, simply saying "All Glory to God."

The fact that so many peers spoke out in favor or Carter suggests that the Jets made the right decision with their reliable homegrown talent.
