Patriots listed as potential landing spot for a top receiver in a trade

The New England Patriots are set to start their 2024 campaign, the first under head coach Jerod Mayo, with a Sunday afternoon battle against the Cincinnati Bengals this week.

However, at this point, the Patriots are still lacking talent on the offensive line and at wide receiver, which has led to the team starting Jacoby Brissett at quarterback this year instead of third-overall pick Drake Maye.

There's still a chance that New England could swing a trade at some point this season to grab a true difference-maker for their offense.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recently put together a list of players who could be traded sometime soon. One of the wide receivers who made his list is Cleveland Browns wideout Amari Cooper, and he listed the Patriots as a potential landing spot.

Cooper, 30, has been remarkably consistent in his nine NFL seasons thus far. He's averaged 74 receptions for 1,046 yards and seven touchdowns per season with the Oakland Raiders, Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns on his way to five Pro Bowls.

He's also missed just seven games in his career, speaking to his durability.

With Cooper's contract voiding at the end of the 2024 season, New England would probably like to have a new deal in place for making the move.

As Knox notes, a team like the Patriots who expect to have a young quarterback under center in the near future needs talented pass-catchers, and few have been as reliable as Cooper over the last decade.
