With the first week of the college football season in the books, there were some statements made across the college landscape.

In the Southeastern Conference, the conference outscored their opponents 733-156 with multiple SEC teams scoring 60 or more points in a dominating week.

The top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs took the field with the then-14th-ranked Clemson Tigers. While the result was a victory for the Bulldogs with a final score of 34-3, the game was not as close.

Head coach Kirby Smart and his staff made their game plan and the players executed that plan very well.

With only a six-point lead at halftime, the Bulldogs offense led by a bit of a surprise in freshman Nate Frazier bulldozed the Tigers' defense in the second half in route to the victory.

Heading into the first week of the season, the Bulldogs were comfortably in the top spot of the rankings with 46 first-place votes and 1,532 points in the Associated Press Poll.

The next closest team in the initial poll was Ohio State with 15 first-place votes and 1,490 points. Both teams did win their opening games, with Ohio State beating Akron 52-6.

The convincing win by the Bulldogs against the Clemson Tigers was enough for voters to separate the two teams by a larger margin.

After the slate of games in week 1 of the season, the Georgia Bulldogs remained in first place, this time with 57 first-place votes and 1,545 points.

Adversely, although the Buckeyes stayed in second place in the AP rankings, they only received five first-place votes and earned 1,478 points.

Adding 11 first-place votes and 13 points overall, the Georgia Bulldogs made a statement with a convincing win and cemented their place atop the college football rankings.

For the Bulldogs, they welcome the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles to Athens on September 7 before they begin conference play.  While coach Smart and his staff will be focused on the opponent for the week, their clash in Tuscaloosa against the Crimson Tide of Alabama is looming on the horizon.

After an already impressive win against a ranked opponent, it's safe to say the Bulldogs will be locked in and focused on winning and have put the conference on notice.
