The Pittsburgh Steelers are just days away from their Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons and now it looks like there's a chance they may not have their quarterback, Russell Wilson.

According to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette , Wilson was limited at practice on Thursday after reporting some calf tightness, head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters. Wilson is set to get checked out by a doctor.

When asked if there was any long-term concern for Wilson's calf, Tomlin simply answered, "none," according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor .

Of course, Wilson missed weeks during training camp with a calf injury that occurred while he was taking part in a conditioning test the day players arrived.

    Friday updates

According to ESPN's Dan Graziano , there is "absolutely a chance" Russell Wilson doesn't play in Week 1 due to his injury.

"He left practice (on Thursday) with a calf injury, so they're going to do tests," Graziano said. "They did tests yesterday, they'll do more tests (on Friday), and we'll see... There is absolutely a chance that Justin Fields is the Steelers' starting quarterback Sunday."

    Thursday updates

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Steelers are "unsure" if Wilson will be able to play in Week 1. Not exactly a surprise there.

    End of updates

Here's more from Tomlin on what's up with Wilson.

While it's good to see there's no long-term issue, this does put Wilson's Week 1 status up in the air, although we'll have a better idea of where he stands once he gets checked out. In the mean time, Justin Fields will obviously prepare to start.

And if Fields does, it'll be a dangerous situation for Wilson, as it's conceivable that Fields could play well enough to keep the job. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, as Wilson would have to sit out first.

There were many out there — including some in the team's building — who believed Fields should start right away. They may get their wish, although that would come as a result of injury rather than Fields winning the job outright.

We will update this page with the latest on Wilson once it becomes available, so stay tuned.
