The Los Angeles Rams don’t immediately come to mind as a team that might make a quarterback change in 2025.

But things in the NFL happen fast.

Those Rams and the 36-year-old Matthew Stafford restructured his contract over the summer, which featured him surrendering his 2025 guarantees. The quarterback got more cash upfront in the process, while the Rams got some interesting flexibility for the long-term.

One of those things on the horizon over the long-term leaguewide is Dallas Cowboys superstar Dak Prescott possibly becoming available in free agency next summer.

These factors just led Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox to list the Rams as one of the good handful of fits for Prescott in 2025 free agency:

“If Stafford doesn't return in 2025, Los Angeles will immediately become a top landing spot for Prescott. The Rams have a playoff-caliber roster, a quarterback-friendly coach in Sean McVay and enough financial flexibility to make a competitive contract offer.”

Like other teams with veteran passers where things could seemingly go either way in the near future, much of this is moot for the Rams if Stafford plays well in 2024. Age aside, he just threw for 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and made the playoffs again, never mind that Super Bowl triumph before the injury-riddled 2022.

But cashflow is a huge consideration and Stafford going on 37 years old while Prescott is roughly five years younger might be a factor the Rams take into account before coughing up a contract that might reset the entire quarterback market.

Prescott would be appealing to nearly every team in the league, too, given he’s completed 67 percent of his passes with 202 touchdowns so far with plenty of success under the brightest of lights in Dallas. It’s hard not to wonder about his fit with Sean McVay and the assortment of weapons, such as Puka Nacua.

But again, this is getting a little ahead of things. Yet, Stafford’s contract developments and the fact Prescott has a no-tag clause makes it pretty easy to make the “what if?” connections right now.
