The Boston Red Sox are struggling to stay afloat right now, as they are now 5.5 games back of the final wild card spot in the American League with two other teams now ahead of them.

As they look for the right answers, Boston appears to be making a move with their bullpen.

According to Chase Ford , the Red Sox are promoting right-handed pitcher Luis Guerrero to the big leagues from Triple-A Worcester.

Guerrero is a 24-year-old from the Dominican Republic who the Red Sox selected in the 17th round of the 2021 MLB draft. His fastball has touched 100 miles per hour.

In 42 games with Worcester this season, he's posted a 3.31 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP while striking out 79 batters over 54.1 innings. Since the start of July, he's been ever better, posting a 2.66 ERA (2.67 FIP).

While the issue over the last week for Boston has mostly been their offense, the bullpen has been a real problem since the All-Star break. Guerrero's addition could help stabilize some things for a group still trying to make the postseason.

UPDATE: According to Sean McAdam , the Red Sox are designating Rich Hill to open up the roster spot. Hill gave up two runs in his 3 2/3 innings over four outings after being signed in August.
