TSN college football expert Bill Bender sees a closer game than a touchdown point spread suggests.
"Texas is the popular pick here – maybe too much, Bender writes. "...The Wolverines will make it interesting, but in games like this you trust the proven quarterback (the Longhorns' Quinn Ewers). Keep in mind that Texas is 1-4 against top-10 teams under (Steve) Sarkisian, but that victory at Alabama is all anybody remembers."
Bender's predicted score of 27-22 offers leans to Michigan plus the points and the OVER.
Northern Illinois vs. Notre Dame
Notre Dame is a large home favorite against Northern Illinois in a nationally-televised game on NBC.
" It's a large number in a potential emotional letdown game for the Irish, but Notre Dame's pass defense should slow down Ethan Hampton," per Bender. "The Irish cruise in the home opener and pick up a late cover along the way."
Prediction : It's Notre Dame 42-10 in a game that goes OVER the total
Iowa vs. Iowa State
The betting market sees a tight one between these in-state rivals.
Bender writes Iowa QB Cade McNamara and Iowa State's Rocco Becht "are near-mirror images, and both teams will favor a conservative approach in the in-state rivalry game. Iowa State is a popular upset pick, but they have never beat a ranked Iowa team at Kinnick Stadium."
The pick is Iowa 20-12 for a Hawkeyes cover and the UNDER.
Tennessee vs. NC State

Here's Bender: "The Wolfpack will be tasked with slowing down a Tennessee offense that racked up 718 total yards against Chattanooga in Week 1. ... The Vols are 12-4 ATS in non-conference games and 3-1 ATS in neutral-site games under (Josh) Heupel."
