Packers’ Jordan Love reportedly avoided season-ending injury, suffers MCL injury

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers in a unique Friday game to open the season, 34-29, and the game was in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

A great game was marred by the fact that Packers quarterback Jordan Love was injured in the waning seconds of the game. He was trying to escape a sack and when he was tackled, the Eagles defenders grabbed his leg and that’s when he suffered the injury. The initial injury looked like it might’ve been season-ending, but the recent news suggests Love got very lucky.

Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network was one of the first to report the good news that Love is not gone for the year and suffered an MCL injury. It is believed to be most likely an MCL sprain. He dodged the worst of it and the timeline for his recovery is anywhere between 3-6 weeks. There is an outside chance of him returning before that timeline, but that is the range that it is in. In this timeline, the earliest Love would return is Week 4 when the Vikings visit Green Bay, while the latest would be Week 7 when the Texans visit Green Bay.

Love burst onto the NFL scene last season when he was handed the reins to the Green Bay offense after Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets. He led the Packers to the playoffs in his first season as the starting quarterback where they had a 9-8 record. He had 4,159 passing yards, 32 passing touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 64.2% completion percentage. He also led the Packers to a massive upset over the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round of the Playoffs, 48-32, before they lost to the San Francisco 49ers in a heartbreaker, 24-21.

Jordan Love is on the verge of being a superstar in the NFL and the Packers got extremely lucky that he is not lost for the season. If Love comes back in time, the Packers could still be in the playoff hunt and he could be the difference for them.
