Mekhi Becton looks like a Howie Roseman heist after first game with Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles had some question marks surrounding the offensive line entering the 2024 regular season, and a big one might have been answered on Friday night.

Considered a bust after flaming out as a former first-round pick of the New York Jets , Mekhi Becton left doubters with little ammunition following a dominant Eagles debut in their 34-29 Week 1 win over the Green Bay Packers in Brazil.

Per PFF’s premium stats , Becton played all 76 offensive snaps at right guard in the game for the Eagles and was impressive, especially in pass protection. Of quarterback Jalen Hurts’ 41 dropbacks in the game, Becton was clean across the board in penalties, sacks allowed and QB hits allowed. The 25-year-old allowed only two pressures in the game, earning an 80.0 pass blocking grade from PFF, and an overall grade of 73.8.

Becton was a willing participant in the run game, too, as the Eagles’ offensive line routinely plowed bodies out of the way for running back Saquon Barkley to go off for 109 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

It appears Howie Roseman got a good one. After four injury-riddled years with the Jets , Becton signed a dirt-cheap, 1-year, $2.75 million deal with the Eagles in the offseason. That contract is, obviously, a steal for the Eagles after Becton locked down the starting job at RG midway through training camp.

After a mostly disastrous first quarter , the Eagles settled into the game against the Packers, and the offensive line was a constant throughout. There was no movement or rotations of any kind on the line, with Becton, center Cam Jurgens and left guard Landon Dickerson flanked by tackles Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson for every offensive snap.
