Chris Boswell sets Pittsburgh Steelers franchise record in Week 1 game

The Pittsburgh Steelers had to lean heavily on kicker Chris Boswell during the Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons , as the offense struggled to finish drives with quarterback Justin Fields at the helm.

Thankfully, Boswell was on his "A" game on Sunday, with the veteran kicker making all five of his field goal attempts over the first three quarters, including a whopping three from 50-plus yards.

Boswell made his first from 57 yards in the first quarter, and then knocked through a 51-yarder and a 44-yarder in the second quarter, making him 3-for-3 in the first half.

Then, Boswell nuked another field goal attempt from 56 yards out to put the Steelers ahead in the third quarter. Pittsburgh padded its lead a little bit more at the end of the third quarter when Boswell made one from 40 yards.

With that aforementioned third make from 50-plus yards, Boswell set a franchise record for the most 50-plus yard field goals in a single game, according to ESPN Stats & Info .

With the way he's playing, you would never think that Boswell actually had some struggles during the offseason. Clearly those are well behind him.

The Steelers would call on Boswell once again late in the fourth quarter to pad their lead, and he came through, making him 6-for-6 on the game. He was responsible for all of the Steelers' points in Week 1.

Boswell entered the 2024 campaign with the fifth-best field goal success rate in NFL history at 87.1%. He has been Mr. Reliable for the most part over his nine seasons with the team and it doesn't look like that will change in 2024.
