Former Steelers QB may get Titans starting job sooner rather than later

Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph entered the 2024 season as the Tennessee Titans ' backup quarterback behind Will Levis, but after Week 1, it may not be long before he takes over the starting job.

That's because Levis was absolutely awful in the Titans' season-opening loss to the Chicago Bears . Levis completed 19-of-32 passes for 127 yards and turned the ball over three times, one of which was a pick-six that might have been one of the worst quarterback decisions in NFL history.

Levis was under pressure and while he was being taken down for a would-be sack, he decided to just flick the ball out 10 yards down the field, but there was a Bears defender waiting and he returned it for a touchdown to give the Bears the lead in the fourth quarter.

Levis went on to throw a second pick later in the quarter that sealed Chicago's win. It was easily the ugliest performance of his young career and the Kentucky product actually managed to look worse than his rookie version.

Considering how well the Titans' defense played, Levis literally just needed to avoid the exact mistakes he made and Tennessee would have won. One can't help but wonder how much different things would have been if a more experienced signal-caller like Mason Rudolph had been given the football.

Granted, Rudolph isn't some superstar quarterback, but he would have made better decisions that what the Titans got out of Levis, and chances are he would have closed that game out.

Levis still has to cement himself as the quarterback of the future in Tennessee, but if he continues to fail to do so and is the biggest thing holding the Titans back, it may not be long before Rudolph gets a chance to start in Nashville.
