For decades sports and music has enjoyed an entertaining crossover. Bridging together performances of athleticism with some of the biggest and most influential artists of the day. This connection has led to differing results. There’s certainly been highs… and definitely quite a few lows. During this year’s All Star Week fans would eventually witness musician and songwriter Ingrid Andress issue an apology for her singing during the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby. In which she sang live in front of thousands of fans and many more at home.

Live events always have a different feel and vibe. It’s RAW. There’s no polishing things up. What you see and hear; is what you get.

Some musical entertainers have had no issues with this type of broadcasting style. Sports fans may instantly think of Marvin Gaye and Whitney Houston. Or Paul McCartney, Bruno Mars, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones; Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Prince, The Who or Coldplay during the Super Bowl.

However, at other times performances do not go as well. Singers will miss notes. Pitch is off. Making it hard for listeners to focus on the words and melody. Roseanne and the Fergie anyone? But real talk, London Bridges and Glamorous will always be a bop so we will definitely grant Fergie a pass.

Nevertheless, during the Home Run Derby fans were not quite sure what caused Ingrid to be off. It was just clear to notice something was not right. But the following day all would learn why. In a statement, Andress issued this apology to Major League Baseball, their fans and her own. She states,

“I’m not gonna bulls*** y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night.

I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun.”

The 32-year-old country singer and 4x Grammy nominee whose singles “Wishful Drinking” and “More Hearts Than Mine” have charted on the Billboard 100. Many of her fans have contributed her success to her normally beautiful singing voice. It is not easy watching someone struggle.
