The USA men’s basketball team featuring the likes of Lebron James, Steph Curry and Anthony Davis; keeps on effortlessly moving through all the global competition. And they are doing it in historic fashion as well. Kevin Durant becomes the USA Olympic All-Time Scorer breaking Lisa Leslie’s record.

Lisa Leslie’s last Olympics was 2008. Therefore, her record has stood for almost two decades. Some 16 years.

Moreover, Leslie was no joke on the court at the Summer Games in her day. Amassing Olympic records like collectible items. In fact, before her basketball career came to an end, not only had Lisa garnered four gold medals; but she had put up 488 points in Olympic play and set 10 Olympic records.

Yet, in his fourth Olympics, Kevin Durant would finally match and surpass Leslie. With 3:06 left in the third quarter, Durant’s basket gave him six points in the game and 489 in his four Olympic appearances. He would go on to finish with 11 points, so this means that the new record is 494 — and counting.

However, Durant becoming the Olympic All Time U.S. scorer in basketball is not really that surprising. Mr. Easy Money is well known for his shooting capabilities. Just looking over the numbers, Durant is the No. 8 scorer in NBA history with 28,924 points, No. 2 on the active list behind only fellow U.S. Olympic teammate LeBron James’ 40,474.

Nonetheless, Lisa Leslie had a congratulatory message for KD today. She goes,

“Congratulations KD I’m honored to have you break my Team USA Olympic record!!! Our dedication to our country is evident and etched in stone! Now go get another Gold medal my friend!
    One Team, One Goal, Gold!
    GO USA.”

After Team USA’s quarterfinal win against Brazil, with a final score of 122-87. Kevin Durant briefly talked to the press about the record. By his words it is easy to decipher that the record was not his real goal. Yet, he also explained how he is able to still be so impressive on the court despite being a veteran. Durant says,

“Training staffs, the work that we put in, just keeping my body ready and just staying in the gym, to be honest.

Records are meant to be broken. Somebody will come along to do the same. I’m focused on trying to win this gold.”

Well the focus on winning yet another medal is certainly paying off. Gold looks to be on the horizon. And with a scorer like Durant on the squad, victory is just days away.
