There were three late games on Saturday and an additional three games on Sunday. Here are some thoughts on the the final week of the NFL 2024 preseason. Generally, it is the last chance for roster bubble players to make a good case for staying with a team. One player who took advantage was Tony Jefferson. New Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz formerly of the Baltimore Ravens brought Jefferson in for a workout in June. Jefferson had retired last year after suffering several injuries and was working as an intern for the Ravens’ scouting program.

However, the 32 year-old veteran proved he can still play. By the end of the game between the Chargers and Cowboys, Jefferson had 14 tackles, two interceptions, one sack and one forced fumble. A performance like that is bound to earn Jefferson a roster spot with the Chargers.

Moreover, Tommy “Cutlets” DeVito was a media darling last season, the Cinderella story everyone was talking about. But he couldn’t rekindle last year’s winning ways during this preseason. In three games, DeVito went 32 of 61 for 270 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions with a 65.2 passer rating. We’ll find out soon if he will remain on the New York Giants roster.

Nevertheless, Geno Smith finally played in the preseason. And in short order he drove his team down the field with 5 passes for 62 yards concluding with a 21 yard touchdown pass to DK Metcalf.

Tennessee Titans QB Will Levis looked sharp on his opening drive. He took his team 82 yards in 9 plays to score the opening-drive touchdown. On the other side of the field was New Orleans Saints’ rookie Samson Nacua. The Titans’ 58 yard field goal attempt was short and Nacua caught the ball and ran it out of the end zone.

Which is what led to one of the more memorable moments of that Titans game. Nacua's 106 yard return that was probably closer to 200 yards with all the zigzagging he was doing, lol. Had football fans excitedly screaming. Sadly, he was caught from behind by Thomas Odukoya and was marked out of bounds at the three-yard line. But he just may have earned a roster spot with one amazing play.

Lastly, Zach Wilson had a pretty good showing on Sunday. So the Broncos will have to decide how many quarterbacks to keep on their roster. And speaking of quarterbacks, the New England Patriots haven’t announced their starting QB yet. Jacoby Brissett was seen grimacing and holding his shoulder after being sacked by KJ Henry during their opening drive. Rookie QB Drake Maye has put together positive performances in the preseason. Between that and a possible Brissett injury, Maye just may become the starting quarterback.

However... Now we’re on to Week 1!
