As we all knew, it was going to be a hard fought, all out battle. It took three sets to decide a victor. But in the end, Emma Navarro defeats Coco Gauff at the US Open; ending Gauff’s pursuit of defending her title.

Navarro came out HOT. She made Gauff work for every single thing. Moving her around the court and taking her down with well-timed little swings. For instance, during a long back and forth bout, Emma hits the balls towards Gauff so she has to run from one end of the court to the other. She then lures Coco in near the net then lightly taps the ball so it lands just behind Gauff. Navarro looked to be in complete control.

Of course, Coco has had little weaknesses that she needs to work on. Especially during the first set. Like her serving. Navarro seemed to take full advantage of each and every flaw; and use it to her advantage.

Nevertheless, Gauff fights back in set two. She looks more like herself. And is able to force a third set. But in the end, Emma would just prove to be too much to handle. Navarro finishes obliterating Coco and moves on to play another day.

In her match against Coco Gauff, Emma Navarro ends up winning, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. A very dominant performance. And this win is a personal best for Emma. With this latest victory, Emma Navarro reaches the US Open Quarterfinal for the very first time. Congratulations.

Emma is definitely having a stellar year. Especially, when it includes taking down the defending champion. And she’s feeling really good about it. In fact, she almost seems at a loss for words. Nonetheless, after her amazing win, Navarro talked to the media about how it feels to finally get to the quarterfinals at the US Open and her thoughts on Coco Gauff. Emma says,

“It’s pretty insane. I lost first round the last two years. Now to be in the quarterfinals is insane. It’s the city I was born in. It feels so special to play here. Coco is an amazing player. I have a ton of respect for her. I know she’s gonna come back and win this thing again.”
