Denny Hamlin, the co-owner of 23XI Racing, felt the sting of Bubba Wallace failing to earn a NASCAR Cup Series playoff spot last Sunday, but was left impressed by Chase Briscoe’s victory at Darlington Raceway.

The winning move developed with 22 laps remaining. Briscoe went low, creating a three-wide racing situation along Turn 3 at the narrow 1.366-mile oval. He propelled past Kyle Larson and Ross Chastain to take the lead for good in the regular-season finale.

“They put it all together,” Hamlin said during an “Actions Detrimental” podcast. “What a well-executed race and just a great job by Chase.”

The Stewart-Haas Racing pilot pulled off the 11th-hour playoff push despite the uncertainty of the organization going dark after the season. Briscoe helped keep the No. 14 Ford team focused despite the uncertain future.

Briscoe’s win Sunday during the Cook Out Southern 500 snapped a 93-race winless streak. How far can he take the late playoff-qualifying momentum?

Below, we’ll preview the top storylines heading into Sunday’s Quaker State 400 available at Walmart, go over the odds, and give our best bets for the 27th race on the 2024 NASCAR schedule and Round of 16 opener.

    • While it may have been tough for Kyle Busch to celebrate Sunday, but his P2 marked the team’s third consecutive top-five finish. It was his best three-event streak since joining Richard Childres Racing in 2022. Missing the postseason spoiled the festivities, though.
    • Ford failed to produce a trip to Victory Lane for the first half of the regular season. Thirteen races later, the manufacturer ended up advancing six playoff pilots. Chevrolet and Toyota each qualified five drivers.
    • For the first time in his career, Corey LaJoie, who placed P9 at Darlington, earned a top-10 finish at a non-drafting track. It was the Spire Motorsports’ driver’s 10th career top 10.

Quaker State 400 Available At Walmart Predictions & Picks

Here are our best NASCAR Cup Series bets for the Quaker State 400 available at Walmart at Atlanta Motor Speedway:

    Denny Hamlin (+1400)

Hamlin won at Atlanta before, edging future Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon by .378 seconds in September 2012. The winner of 54 career Cup races, Hamlin seeks another win in the Peach State.

    Tyler Reddick (+1800)

The regular-season champion displayed his intestinal fortitude at Darlington by simply not “losing his lunch” and placing P10, despite feeling ill. Reddick captured the first trophy for co-owner Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing.

    Christopher Bell (+2000)

Coming off a P3 at Darlington, Bell just needs to place running and he’ll be a strong candidate to advance to the Round of 8. In the past 10 outings in which Bell finished, he collected two wins, six top fives and nine top 10s. The team has been plagued by six DNFs, though.
