Bettormetrics is a sports odds intelligence firm that recently released an analysis of four leading U.S. sportsbooks. In their research, they found that DraftKings’ mobile markets were suspended for the least amount of time during the 2023 NFL season. On the opposite side, bet365 had their markets suspended for the longest duration. According to Bettormetrics, the inverse time where betting is suspended while live odds are updating is called Uptime. During the 2023 NFL season, DraftKings averaged 96.1% uptime. The best of any sportsbook in the United States. FanDuel was not far behind DraftKings with 90.55% uptime and BetMGM had 86.36% uptime. Out of the four sportsbooks reviewed by Bettormetrics, bet365 had the lowest uptime at 85.55%.

The sports odds intelligence firm combined their internal metrics with American Gaming Association estimates for NFL betting handle. By doing this, Bettormetrics was able to estimate that suspensions in betting cost the four sportsbooks a combined $168.9 million in revenue. If no significant changes are made heading into 2024, the company believes that number could swell to $220 million. Robert Irwin, the co-founder and CEO of Bettormetrics, had this to say in a press release.

It’s a complex picture, but if you take the NFL and look at the suspension strategy of FanDuel and DraftKings, DraftKings suspends substantially less than FanDuel, so we’re able to look at those moments when FanDuel was suspended when they shouldn’t be.” – said Irwin

What can bet365 do to try and catch up to DraftKings and FanDuel?

For the last four years, Bettormetrics has been analyzing various sportsbooks’ performances in the NFL. DraftKings has continued to improve its product over time and it’s why they’re one of the top sportsbooks in the United States. The company announced its plans to purchase Simplebet. This could widen the gap between DraftKings and all other sportsbooks in the market. Opposing sportsbooks would be forced to partner with their rivals or find a way to create microbetting technology. The only sportsbook that has any chance of surviving is FanDuel.

According to Bettormetrics Chief Revenue Officer Sabin Brooks, bet365 has a lot of catching up to do if they want to compete with DraftKings and FanDuel. However, Sabin believes that bet365 has the best chance of any sportsbook to compete with the top two. Bet365 is an England-based sportsbook that needs to invest more in the United States if they want to truly compete in the market.
