Spring Grove’s Reinhardt is State Trap Champion
Spring Grove senior Taylor Reinhardt is the 2024 Girls State Trap champion after hitting 99 of 100 flying clay targets at the state champion-ships in Prior Lake, conducted by the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). The three-time All-State Lion shooter, competing in the rain, edged out three girls who scored 98. Last year, in the first year for a separate division for girls, Reinhardt had tied with the second-best score of 98, but after the tie-breaker, brought home the fourth-place medal. This year, she qualified again by being one of the top 25 girls in the state, based on their five-week, regular-season average.
Three Rivers All-Conference Softball
Caledonia (14-1, 24-4) won the TRC East softball title ahead of Winona-Cotter (12-3, 17-8), La Crescent/Hokah (8-7, 10-11), Lewiston-Altura (6-9, 12-12), Rushford-Peterson (2-13, 6-15), and Fillmore Central/Lanesboro (0-15, 4-17) while Dover-Eyota (11-3, 15-8) took the East over Chatfield (9-5, 15-9), St. Charles (9-5, 14-11), Wabasha-Kellogg (6-8, 15-11), and PEM (3-11, 5-16). The Warriors wound up as Section 1AA runner-up, handing state champion Randolph its only loss. Wabasha-Kellogg was the 1A runner-up. Caledonia gets seven first team All-TRC selections, seniors Braelyn Lange (P/SS), Kennedy Hansen (LF), Annah Anderson (RF), and freshmen Elsa Blum (1B), Avery Augedahl (P/SS), Adrienne Lange (C), and Paizley Lange (3B). B-Lange had a huge senior year on the mound (14-3 record, 110 2/3 IP, 67 H, 48 R, 20 ER, 54 BBs, 169 Ks, 1.265 ERA) whilst surpassing 300 career strikeouts. She also hit .314 with 10 extra base hits (six 2Bs, two 3Bs, two HR), 26 RBI, and 22 runs scored. Blum led the team in hitting (.534), extra base hits with 20 (13 2Bs, three 3Bs, four HR), and RBIs (34) while tying for a team second-best 33 runs scored. Her on base was .598, slugging .886, and OPS (on-base-plus-slugging) 1.484. Each made All-Section and Class AA All-State Honorable Mention. Lange got to play on the All-Star team. She was All-TRC honorable mention last year. Augedahl also made All-Section after joining B-Lange in doing double-duty; pitching, and hitting. The frosh was 10-1 on the mound (43 H, 27 R, 10 ER, 16 BB, 87 K, 1.082 ERA) while hitting a team second-best .443. She had a team-best six home runs and seven triples amongst her 17 extra base-hits, whilst driving in 27 runs and scoring a team best 38 times. She struck out just seven times in 109 plate appearances. Anderson (.427 average, ten 2B, four HR’s, 28 R) was second on the team with 30 RBIs. A-Lange (.390 average, ten 2Bs, four 3Bs, two HR, 21 RBIs) tied for second on the team with 33 runs scored. P-Lange (.400 average, six 2Bs, four HR, 24 RBIs, 29 R) and Hansen (.376 average, seven 2Bs, 23 RBI, 25 R) gave the Warriors six All-TRC picks who hit above .350 with at least seven extra base hits (a crazy number). As a team, the Warriors smacked 25 home runs. Making All-TRC HM for Caledonia are Aubrie Klug (So. CF > .432 average, seven 2Bs, 9 RBI, 21 R) and Vivian Kittleson (Fr. 2B > .316 average, five 2B, two HR, 15 RBI, 20 R). Said girls helped the Warriors to arguably their best season ever. Making All-TRC for Chatfield are Alexis Hinckley (Sr. C), Makenna Dornack (Fr. SS), Rylee Urban (Fr. P) and Katryn Johnson (Jr. P/IF). Dornack heads the cast, as she earned Class AA All State Second team. The freshman led Chatfield in hitting (.474 average), on base percentage (.583), runs scored (42) and tied for the team-lead in doubles (11). She also hit two triples and a home run and a had a team-second best-tying 24 RBIs. She was All-TRC HM last year. Hinckley earned her fourth All-TRC honor, a rare feat. She led the Gophers in home runs (5) and RBIs (34) while tying for the team-lead in doubles (11), and hitting a team second-best .457. Hinckley is Class AA All-State Honorable Mention. Both Dornack and Hinckley had splendid OPS’ (on-base plus slugging) of 1.25-plus. Each was All-Section. Urban (103 2/3 IP, 11-6 record, 96 H, 57 R, 28 ER, 26 BBs, 121 Ks, 1.891 ERA) was the Gophers top pitcher. Johnson (42 1/3 IP, 4-3 record, 32 H, 36 R, 15 ER, 26 BB, 48 K, 2.48 ERA) also pitched while contributing offensively (.303 average, two HR, 17 RBIs, 16 Rs). Making All-TRC HM for the Gophers’ are Brynn Horsman (So. OF > .316 average, 11 RBI, 15 R), Brittin Ruskell (Jr. 2B > .338 average, six doubles, 24 RBI, 22 R), and Grace Finley (So. OF > .304 average, 10 RBI, 8 R). Rushford-Peterson gets one All-TRC pick in Cassandra Boyum (Sr. CF). She led the Trojans in hitting (.426 average), RBI (16), and runs scored (20) while tying for the team lead in extra base hit with nine (six 2Bs, two 3Bs, HR). Ellie Ekern (Sr. SS > .323 average, 14 RBI, 15 R) and Shelby Tesch (So. P/OF > .311 average, six 2Bs, two 3Bs, HR, 19 R) made All-TRC HM. Fillmore Central/Lanesboro did not have an All-TRC or All-TRC HM selection.
Spring Sports End Well for Fillmore Central
At the June 25 Fillmore Central School Board meeting, Superintendent Heath Olstad reported that over 100 students are participating in Strength and Agility this summer. Summer SAC is going well and there are many adult and youth enrichment activities going on through Community Ed. There are multiple openings for jobs in the Child Care Center and in ECFE. The spring sports season has ended with many Fillmore Central athletes doing well in track and field, golf, clay target, baseball and softball. The girls golf team placed first at state and the boys golf team placed fifth. Jayce Kiehne achieved state champion and beat the school record set by Andy Bunge in the 800 meter finals.
Local Legion Baseball Update, Rushford Post 94 and Winona Lejetz Sit One Month from Legion State Tournament
(KWMN)-Legion baseball teams around the area are well into their summer schedules, with the Legion State tournament coming up at the end of this month and into August. The Post 94 senior team is comprised of most of the players on last year’s junior team that made it all the way to the State legion tournament. They sit at 3-5 on the season, with three games next week.
