The Shawnee Planning Commission has given the green light for a new roughly 11-acre single-family subdivision on Mize Road in the far western reaches of the city. On July 15, the commission gave its approval to a preliminary plat and rezoning request for the proposed Maple Ridge Subdivision in the 6500 block of Mize Road in a less densely developed area just east of the Kansas River.

Martin City will get a coffee shop
The Martin City Community Improvement District (CID) held its monthly meeting on July 11th at Jess & Jim’s Steakhouse. Special guest was Dos de Oros owner Miguel Cervantes, who recently relocated the taqueria, Rey de Oros, from Blue Ridge Blvd. and Holmes Rd. to 131st and Holmes Rd. While CID business owners were happy to hear of Rey de Oros’ success in the past few months, they were especially excited to hear that the Cervantes have purchased the former P.S. Coffee Shop next door. Cervantes said his brother José is in the process of applying for an LLC to own and run the coffee shop business. The coffee shop will serve coffee beverages and Mexican pastries. The brothers have no opening date, but do plan to have drive-thru only. The space is currently being used as a torta bakery for Cervantes’ two restaurants.
