SPRING HOPE — Red Town Wangs & Thangs, a new food truck venture by Bunn’s James Hartsfield, made a pit stop in town this week as part of a “Food Truck Monday” series hosted by Jason Walters Real Estate.

Created with his brother, Atlanta-based chef Robert Hartsfield, the truck offers a wide array of wings, burgers and sides.

“The plan has probably been going on for about four years,” Hartsfield said of the work necessary to get the operation to market. “Paperwork, probably about a year … that was the hardest part of it — was really getting all the paperwork done.”

That’s not to mention developing a website — redtownwangs-n-thangs.com — or the social media accounts needed to reach customers in a rapid-fire, digital world.

“We do advertise where we’re gonna be … if we’re local, we try to stay around the area — Spring Hope, Pilot, Bunn area. Real close,” Hartsfield said of his day-to-day itinerary. “But we normally let everybody know where we’re gonna be.”

    UP, RUNNING AND BEYOND

The Wangs rig is built to serve as many customers as possible over the course of a given day — and beyond, in fact.

“We want to travel, and we want to do bigger events,” Hartsfield said of the company’s long-range plan. “So, in order to do that, we had to have a full kitchen, and we also had to have the fire-suppressant stuff and all that kind of stuff to go along with it, because certain states require different things.”

As for getting this version of the show on the road, however, the truck has been largely tied to local events stretching from Lake Royale to Fayetteville.

    A FAMILY AFFAIR

For Hartsfield, having family members along for the ride has been key in getting the business off to a fun-filled, solid start.

His daughter, Maranda, helms the cooking.

His niece, Nadia, handles cashier duties.

His son, not with the team on Monday, is a software engineer who handles the company’s social media platforms.

“What I tried to do was bring everybody together with their expertise,” Hartsfield remarked of the family-first approach. “It’s really kind of created a team environment … and as long as everybody wears their own hats, we’ll do pretty good.”
