Community Action to buy Smith building for $1 Winneshiek County
Winneshiek County plans to sell Decorah’s historic Smith building to Northeast Iowa Community Action. During Monday morning’s Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors meeting, NEICAC Director Trisha Wilkins reported that the NEICAC Board of Directors recently approved the purchase of the Smith building – located at 305 Montgomery St. – from the county for $1. The formal deeding of the property will require a public hearing at a later date. Motorcycle And Truck Collide Causing Injury
On 07/13/2024, a motorcycle collided with a truck on the Hwy 151 exit 8 overpass in the Village of Dickeyville, as reported to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Gary Helbing, 62, was riding his orange 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Highway 61 when Earl Ludwig, 72, in a red 2013 Ford F150, pulled out into Helbing’s path from the off ramp, resulting in a collision. Despite Helbing’s efforts to avoid the crash, he hit the driver’s side of Ludwig’s truck and suffered severe injuries, needing assistance from witnesses at the scene before being taken to the hospital.
