‘We have enough liquor stores.’ New Galesburg grocery store receives liquor license despite Council opposition
A new Galesburg grocery store will be able to sell packaged liquor despite the objection of two City Council members. Galesburg Aldermen on Monday approved a Class C-1 liquor license for Save More, a new grocery expected to open within the next two week at 900 E. Main St., the former Sav A Lot. The license was approved 5-2, with Ward 3 Alderman Evan Miller and Ward 4 Alderman Dwight White casting no votes.

Motorcycle And Truck Collide Causing Injury
On 07/13/2024, a motorcycle collided with a truck on the Hwy 151 exit 8 overpass in the Village of Dickeyville, as reported to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. Gary Helbing, 62, was riding his orange 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Highway 61 when Earl Ludwig, 72, in a red 2013 Ford F150, pulled out into Helbing’s path from the off ramp, resulting in a collision. Despite Helbing’s efforts to avoid the crash, he hit the driver’s side of Ludwig’s truck and suffered severe injuries, needing assistance from witnesses at the scene before being taken to the hospital.

Earthquake Shakes Illinois: Shocking Footage Inside (Video)
A 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck Northern Illinois early this morning. The earthquake occurred a little before 3 a.m. in Southern DeKalb County, near the town of Somonauk. The earthquake was felt in various locations including Winthrop Harbor, Cary, and Yorkville. Heather and Cory were awakened by the quake, initially mistaking it for a storm. Marcia in Winthrop Harbor reported feeling her house shake. A resident in Cary noticed the loud and rumbly noise, distinguishing it from thunder. Dan in Yorkville also felt the earthquake.
Man Sentenced To Life in Prison For Killing Dubuque Woman
A man was sentenced to life in prison without parole Monday for killing a Dubuque woman in 2021. 25 year old Romell Enoch received the mandatory sentence during a hearing in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after previously being found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 20 year old Kylie Duster of Dubuque. A jury reached its guilty verdict on May 6 after four hours of deliberation following three days of testimony. Police found Duster dead in her Dubuque home on July 28, 2021, after she had not been seen for multiple days. She was found in her bedroom closet with a piece of white fabric in her mouth and injuries to her face and neck.

NWS: EF1 tornado confirmed in Grant County
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The National Weather Service in La Crosse confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down in Kieler in Grant County on Monday night. The tornado was estimated to have been on the ground for 0.3 miles in the area of County Road H and County Road HHH. Wind speeds were estimated to be 90 miles per hour.

It all went down in May 2012. Jerald Reiter, 55 of Cascade, IA, stopped at the homey Dubuque staple The Dog House Lounge on a Sunday evening. Reiter had a zebra and a macaw in his vehicle, which immediately attracted the attention of bar patrons. People were taking pictures, and someone phoned the police. When the police showed up, they realized those animals were actually Reiter's legally registered pets!
