SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Springdale Animal Services says it took in some dogs who ran away from home on Thursday night due to fireworks.

It says usually around the Fourth of July, it sees more dogs coming in than usual because the loud pops and noises from fireworks can cause them to run away.

SAS said as of Friday, it took in 9 dogs who possibly ran from home.

Cities extend ordinances for fireworks due to July 4th weather

Courtney Kremer, the director of animal services for the city of Springdale, said she expects to see more in the coming days.

“It’s not just the fourth because fireworks are going off more than just on the particular day this week and next week we are expecting to see a larger influx than what we would maybe normally get,” Kremer said.

Kremer said a few dogs have been reunited with their families.

If there are fireworks going off around you, Kremer suggests taking your dog into your bedroom turning on some loud music or the TV, and keeping them in a contained space.
