SPRINGFIELD (WCIA) — Former Illinois golfer Dylan Meyer carded a new professional career low 61 on Friday in the second round of the Memorial Health Championship to shoot up the leaderboard at the Korn Ferry Tour event at Panther Creek Country Club. Meyer sits T-18, posting the second lowest round of the day with a clean card 10 birdies and no bogeys. Meyer makes the weekend for the fourth time in six starts this year on the KFT. Playing with conditional status has been a grind for the former All-American collegiate golfer, trying to get back to a full-time playing schedule.

“I mean it is tough,” Meyer said. “Golf has gotten a lot younger, you’re seeing guys that are amateurs winning. Nick Dunlap, golf’s young and I feel like I’m good enough out here to compete and get PGA Tour status and starts. Everyone has their own pathway. You have Colin, Scottie, Doug and Nick and all those guys I graduated with and it drives me to keep getting better. This is what I want to do, I don’t see myself doing a 9-to-5 yet so I’m just going to keep enjoying the grind.”

Illinois rising senior Jackson Buchanan shot his second straight five under 66 to make the weekend in his first Korn Ferry Tour start, tied for 18th along with Meyer. Two other former Illini, Brian Campbell and Michael Feagles, both failed to make the cut posting five under for the two days.

Day one leader Ryan Gerard continues to lead the tournament at -17, four shots clear of the field, after shooting 63 on Friday. Round three of the four day event continues on Saturday.
