SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a recent string of burglaries in southeastern Springfield, and they’re asking the public for assistance in solving the case.

Officials said on Facebook that the Sheriff’s Office has taken several reports of burglary in the so-called “Cabbage Patch” since April 1. The victims said the burglaries all happened after a young Black male solicited yard work from the victims. He was refused each time.

Within a few days of the encounter, or even later in the same day, the victims noticed items missing from their home, including electronics, video game systems and clothes.

The Sheriff’s Office said there were originally two suspects in the burglaries. One has since been identified and is no longer considered a suspect. A photo of the Black male, still unidentified, is posted to the right.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in solving this burglary string, particularly from those who live inside the marked square on the map below. The eastern boundary is Fox Bridge Drive.
