SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Officials are celebrating some art previously thought to be lost to a Springfield business.

Among buildings the June 19 fire in downtown Springfield included is the one holding the Pillsburied art exhibit. The Pillsburied art exhibit was designed to salvage and recycle the aesthetics of the abandoned Pillsbury factory in Springfield.

UPDATE: ‘Pillsburied’ exhibit lost in downtown Springfield fire; businesses, events affected

After spending three days going through the rubble of the building from the fire, curator Robert Mazrim estimates 30% of the pieces are salvageable.

“Some are smoke & water damaged and some are remarkably intact,” the curator wrote on Facebook. “But the good news is that a portion of the core exhibit still exists.”

Mazrim said the surviving artifacts will be combined with other objects and works which were not yet transferred to the Adams Street location. They will plan to mount another exhibit sometime in the near future.
