    Traffic backup on I-91 South in Springfield due to accident

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)– The Massachusetts State Police (MSP) are reporting a two vehicle accident on Interstate 91 southbound in the area of Exit 1 in Springfield.

    According to Trooper James DeAngelis, MSP was called to the area shortly before 6pm Monday evening for a report of a motor vehicle accident.  A 2017 Dodge Ram pickup, operated by a 33-year-old man from Crestwood, Ky., and a 2016 Freightliner Tractor-Trailer, operated by a 27-year-old man from Brockton were involved.

    4th of July traffic likely to extend beyond weekend

    The driver of the pickup had minor injuries. There is no information about the driver of the tractor-trailer.

    Members of the MSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section are responding due to the crash involving a tractor-trailer,. The right lane of I-91 South is closed at this time. No cause is listed and there are no charges at this time.
