BOSTON (WWLP) – Boeing will plead guilty to a criminal fraud charge in connection to two crashes of 737 Max jetliners that killed almost 350 people.

According to the Justice Department, the charges say that Boeing violated an agreement that had protected it from prosecution for the crashes for the last three years by failing to make changes it had promised in the agreement.

Last week, the Justice Department gave Boeing the choice between entering a guilty plea and paying a fine, or facing trial for felony charges of conspiracy to defraud the US Government.

Pending approval from a federal judge, Boeing will pay a $243 million fine. That’s the same amount the company paid back in 2021 when it reached the original settlement.
