SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – City officials gathered at City Hall for a promotional pinning ceremony for the Springfield Police Department.

Springfield Police Superintendent Larry Akers promoted Lieutenant Juan Rosario to the rank of Captain, Sergeant Emily Dunn to the rank of Lieutenant, and Officers Christopher Goodrow and Michael Stierle to the rank of Sergeant.

These newly promoted men and women in blue were joined by friends, family, and loved ones for this ceremony that celebrates their dedication and commitment to public service.

22News spoke with Captain Juan Rosario, who has served the city of Springfield for nearly 28 years and served our country in the U.S. Army for more than 26 years. “Iit feels great! I’ve been trying for a while, 8 or 9 years. I’m getting old so this will probably be my last promotion. It has changed a lot over the last 20 years but it’s still a good job. A great job actually.”

This pinning ceremony was the first group of officers that Superintendent Akers is promoting in his new role. He says that he is pleased to see some of their department’s talented officers begin to rise in the ranks in their careers.

He expects them to live up to their oath, emphasizing that he will be watching their progress as they grow into the positions they have rightfully earned.
