SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Starting on Sunday, the city of Springfield will reopen its cooling centers to help residents manage the extremely hot weather on the way next week.
Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival continues with musical performances This will include parks, senior centers, and community centers across the city. On Sunday, the following cooling centers will be open from noon to 6:00 p.m.
- Indian Orchard Community Center at Myrtle Street Park
- The Senior Center in the North End at Kenefick Park
- South End Community Center
- Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center
Cooling Centers will be available at seven locations on Monday and Tuesday, such as:
- Raymond A. Jordan Senior
- Hungry Hill Senior Center
- Mason Square Library Community Room
- Indian Orchard Community Center at Myrtle Street Park
- Senior Center in the North End at Kenefick Park
- South End Community Center
- Clodo Concepcion (Greenleaf) Community Center
Sunday will be mostly sunny and hot with highs in the lower 90s.
On Monday, we’ll have a mix of sunshine and clouds with the chance for a shower or thunderstorm later in the day. It will be hot and humid with highs in the low to mid-90s but the heat index will make it feel like it’s in the upper 90s.
