SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – State Rep. Bud Williams has requested more federal funding to stop the influx of illegal guns entering cities like Springfield.

Williams believes that allocating more resources to the ATF, the US Attorney’s Office, and the Department of Justice will help to prevent the influx of illegal weapons on city streets. By focusing on seizing the weapons this initiative aims to prosecute those involved in these illegal transactions. Williams says the ease of access to firearms has contributed to the rise in violent crime.

“Springfield goes the valley goes. When Springfield is bleeding all the other East Longmeadow, Longmeadow, Wilbraham, crime starts to penetrate and start to go to other communities, so I’m pushing, hoping things fall into place. We do need help,” said State Rep. Williams.

Williams says he’s reached out to Congressman Richard Neal, and Senators Elizabeth Warren, and Ed Markey for help with federal funding. He hopes they will get on board before the end of summer to put an end to this revolving issue.
