SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield City Councilor Lavar Click-Bruce met with Eversource and other city officials this Monday evening to discuss street lighting concerns.

Former Springfield Mayor praises Biden’s decision to step down

In neighborhoods like Forest Park, McKnight, and Old Hill, along with Dwight and State Streets, there have been concerns about streetlights going out. Click-Bruce is now hoping to address this issue with updated and increased lighting in all neighborhoods in the next couple of weeks. He tells 22News, that inadequate street lighting is a major contributing factor to the city’s crime problems and public safety.

“I truly believe well-lit areas would help with reducing crime. Obviously, with the day and age we live in now, folks shooting in broad daylight will say, well, what do you mean? But I believe at night with the well-lit areas, it would deter that,” said Click-Bruce.

It’s part of Eversource’s 5-year plan to upgrade 16-thousand city lights to LED over the next 5 years, right now it’s in year 1.
