Agents with HSI vests and members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force were seen coming in and out of the Berkshire Arms Apartments in the Pine Point neighborhood of Springfield. 22News saw two people who were taken away from the area in handcuffs by Springfield police.

A neighbor who owns a home next to the apartment complex reported hearing loud noises around 4:45 a.m. Springfield police spokesperson Ryan Walsh told 22News that a search warrant was being conducted and there were no gunshots. The HSI spokesperson clarified that it wasn’t gunfire they heard, it was the sound of a flashbang grenade as agents entered the residence.

“I thought it was the guy picking up the trash bin, the truck ’cause it makes a noise like that. But when I heard bang bang bang, I knew something was wrong,” said Henry, a neighbor to Berkshire Arms.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont told 22News, “In the early hours of this morning, Homeland Security Investigations special agents executed a search warrant at a residence in Springfield related to an ongoing investigation. There is no danger to the public. As this investigation is ongoing, no further information is available at this time.”

Springfield police told 22News that additional information will be released at a later time.
