RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVES, NEED IS URGENT
Blood donations tend to drop over the busy summer months. Sue Thesenga with the American Red Cross is asking you to roll up a sleeve this month and give the gift of life. She says there is an urgent need for Type-O blood donations right now. The bloodmobile is taking donations today (Wednesday) from 10-4 at Springfield High School. Thursday donations will be taken at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville from 1 – 7 and at First Presbyterian Church in St. James Thursday from noon to 6 and Friday from 8 to noon. Tiger Softball end of season awards
Springfield Tiger Softball held their annual end of season awards banquet last month. This was a time to thank and honor their athletes for a great season. Many awards were given to the players. See complete story in this week's issue of the Springfield Advance-Press.
Legion honors 50 year members
The Springfield American Legion Post No. 257 recognized and honored their 50 year members last month. Six local men, Warren Hauger, Grant Lade , Wayne Rice, Bruce Runck, John Ryan and John Zihlke were honored this year for 50 continuous years of membership in Springfield’s American Legion post. Dave Wahl, commander of Springfield American Legion Post No. 257, presented them with certificates to mark the milestone.
Minnesota Power says 1 million gallons of coal wastewater leaked
Cohasset, Minn. (FOX 9) - A Duluth-based electric utility company says it uncovered a leak that sent coal wastewater into a lake in central Minnesota. Minnesota Power says it is working with both state and federal agencies after detecting a discharge of ash wastewater at its Boswell Energy Center in Cohasset, Minnesota.
