SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Springfield man charged with two counts of rape has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

According to online court documents, 42-year-old Anthony Allen Thompson entered an Alford plea under a plea agreement and has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for each count, with the sentences to run consecutively.

When an Alford plea is entered, a defendant doesn’t admit guilt, but agrees that evidence likely would lead to a conviction.

Records show the court has ordered a stay of execution of Thompson’s sentence due to medical conditions and treatment he’s currently receiving at the Greene County Jail. Thompson is scheduled to be back in court on Sept. 3, 2024 so his case can be reviewed again.

Thompson is accused of abusing more than one victim between January 2020 and June 2021. In interviews with the Springfield Police Department, Thompson claimed to suffer from traumatic brain injuries that caused memory loss and said he didn’t remember raping one of the victims or her name.
