National Microsoft outage impacts Springfield flights

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A global outage is impacting Springfield as hundreds of people are waiting to board their delayed flights.

There are lots of people who have nothing to do but wait until their flights are available. One passenger says it has been a morning of confusion.

“So a lot of people were confused because their apps wouldn’t work. They couldn’t get any information from the airlines or anybody that could figure out what was going on,” said Andrew Farmer whose flight was delayed. “And there were some planes in the air. So we weren’t sure why our specific flight and airline weren’t working. So I know it affected some airlines, but not all.”

Andrew Farmer and his family were supposed to head to Florida around 6:00 this morning and were still waiting at 11:00 am.

The global tech outage has delayed flights for hours, Farmer said this won’t impact their vacation too much and they are patiently waiting.

However, those with connecting flights won’t be as lucky. The Springfield Branson National Airport says their computer systems are running normally but they can’t control when the planes arrive and depart. The first flights of the day are typically scheduled for before 6 am but today’s first flight didn’t leave until around 9:00 am.

“We have inbounds from both Allegiant and American. I’ve seen some activity with Delta, so we’re starting to see signs that the system is starting to come back up,” said Brian Weiler Director of Aviation Springfield Branson National Airport. “But it will take several, several hours to recover from this at least. So we’ll be experiencing impacts all day.”
