SPRINGFIELD, Mo–I’s been a week since Major League Baseball conducted its draft.

Two Bears were drafted in pitchers Eric Loomis and Brandt Thompson.

Slugger Zack Stewart was not drafted.

As a draft eligible sophomore Stewart had the option to return to Missouri State.

So when major league teams did not want to offer the amount of money that Stewart wanted, he elected to return to the Bears.

The Lebanon product hit .300 with 21 homers and 55 RBI.

He’ll be back in the draft pool after his junior season.

And is using this draft snub as motivation for the upcoming campaign.

“Basically we had a number in mind. We had a few offers but the numbers didn’t meet the number that we kind of came together on. It wasn’t what I wanted. And ultimately coming back to the Bears was the best for me. Having that edge that it gives you. I’m going to train hard. I always do. But definitely maybe a little more fire in the tank now.” said Stewart.
