    A 14-member nonpartisan coalition worked together so Springfield voters can hear directly from local candidates — in their own words — prior to the Aug. 6 primary election.

    Volunteers with the Informed Voter Coalition, including the Springfield News-Leader, collaborated to help voters learn about the candidates involved in contested races on Democratic and Republican ballots.

    Starting July 29, candidates will share their ideas and goals in brief conversations to air on KSMU Ozarks Public Radio (91.1 FM).

    After they air, video versions of the conversations produced by the News-Leader will be available at News-Leader.com and on the websites of other coalition members.

    The coalition selected four contested races to cover:

    Greene County Sheriff: airs at noon Monday, July 29

    Missouri Senate District 29: airs Monday, July 29, following Greene County Sheriff

    Christian County Commissioner - East: airs at noon Tuesday, July 30

    Christian County Commissioner - West: airs Tuesday, July 30, following Christian County Commissioner - East.

    The following candidates participated in the interviews:

    • Greene County Sheriff: Republicans Ben McMains and Jim Arnott;
    • Missouri Senate District 29: Republican Mike Moon, Republican Susan Haralson and Democrat Ron Monnig;
    • Christian County Commissioner - East: Republican Bradley Alan Jackson, Republican Jess Hodges and Democrat David A. Krewson;
    • Christian County Commissioner - West: Republican J. Michael White, Republican Johnny Williams, Republicans Brent Young, Republican Bryan Garrison, Democrat Sheila E. Michaels.

    Launched in 2019, the Informed Voter Coalition has a goal of educating voters and engaging candidates with citizens. All organizations are nonpartisan. Members are:
