SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield police have arrested Hannah Boemmels after her 2-year-old son was found dead due to intoxication from fentanyl and methamphetamine in 2023.

According to court records, Boemmels is charged with felony first-degree endangerment of the welfare of a child – death of a child and felony first-degree endangerment of a child creating substantial risk.

The probable cause statement says on June 26, 2023, Boemmels found her two-year-old son unresponsive on the living room floor where he was sleeping, prompting her to call SPD. While speaking with police that day, Boemmels admitted to recently smoking methamphetamine in a glass pipe.

A day later, the two-year-old tested positive for meth, fentanyl and morphine in his system.

Boemmels’s roommate spoke with the police four months later and revealed Boemmels would smoke meth in front of her two children and that she possessed fentanyl.

The Greene County Children’s Division also told police that Boemmels tested positive for methamphetamine, cocaine and ecstasy the weekend before her son’s death. Boemmels claimed to the Children’s Division that she only used at a friend’s house and just stored drugs in her home high up in a dresser.

Police continued to interview Boemmels and she admitted to smoking methamphetamine for 14 years at least once a week. She denied smoking in front of her children or possessing fentanyl and morphine but was not able to explain how those drugs got into her children’s systems.

Court documents note that Boemmels has no ties to the community as her family lives in California.

The open court-only bond for Boemmels is set at $100,000.
