Omaha shooting victim was ‘violent,’ wouldn’t leave shooter’s home, neighbors say
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A South Omaha man says he shot and killed a man who was violent and refused leave his home early Tuesday morning. Police arrived at a residence near 51st and Q streets in Omaha around 2:30 a.m. to find 40-year-old Nicholas Gomez inside the house — he’d been shot to death.

Elgin native aims for rural family medicine career
OMAHA - Nicole Beckman, MD, calls herself a farm girl at heart. That’s one reason Dr. Beckman, a graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine and part of the Advanced Family Medicine Training Program, plans to become a rural family medicine physician, hopefully somewhere near her hometown of Elgin, Nebraska, when she completes her residency.
Nebraska offers scholarship to junior college power forward
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have offered a scholarship to a top junior college player. Xavier Edmonds is a class of 2025 power forward from Salt Lake (Utah) C.C. Last season, he appeared in 32 games, averaging 20.8 minutes per appearance. Edmonds also averaged 14.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. The 6-foot-8 power forward shot 55% from the field, 31% from the three-point line, and 66% from the free-throw line. The California native was a three-star prospect coming out of high school in 2023. Beller, Brahmer share Omaha World Herald Midlands Female Athletes of the Year honor
WAYNE - Wayne State College volleyball players Taya Beller adn Maggie Brahmer were named Sunday by the Omaha World Herald as Co-Midlands Female College Athletes of the Year. Beller and Brahmer led the Wildcat program to a magical season in 2023, starting with a sweep over in-state rival Nebraska-Kearney at Volleyball Day in Nebraska August 30th.

A Nebraska basketball player recently discussed his decision to return to Lincoln for another season. Senior Juwan Gary made the announcement to return for the senior season. Lincoln Woman’s Death Investigation Has Been Closed
LINCOLN–(KFOR July 16)–The investigation into a Lincoln woman’s death after she fell out of a window in late March has been concluded. According to Lincoln Police, they were unable to determine what led up to the death of 58-year-old DeAnn Stover, who fell out of a window and was found unconscious at a home near 27th and Heide Lane on March 27. The autopsy determined Stover died from blunt force trauma from the fall.
