7-year-old Ohio boy tragically killed after shooting himself accidentally amid 'chaotic scenes'

A 7-year-old boy has died after he accidentally shot himself in Ohio on Tuesday , according to police.

The tragic incident occurred in Springfield Township at around 2:30 pm. Officers in Ohio responded to a report of an accidental shooting involving a child.

The frantic 911 call was made by a woman who identified herself as the child’s great-grandmother. Chaotic scenes could be heard in the background of the call.

After confirming with other people in the background, the woman told the operator the boy had accidentally shot himself with a gun.

They later identified the boy as Justice Jenkins. He was declared dead at the scene after emergency responders tried and failed to provide life-saving treatment, according to a police news release. The operator allegedly coached Justice’s great-grandmother to begin CPR on the boy before first responders arrived.

It remains unclear what circumstances led to the child obtaining the gun and firing it at himself. However, the 911 call recording was obtained by The Enquirer through an open records request. During the call the operator asks why the child had access to the gun, and the grandmother replied that he was playing with it.

Police have asked anyone with information on the tragic accident to contact the Springfield Township Police Department.
